Now that winter has arrived, the preparations for a new year of the vegetative cycle of the vine begin. That is why today we want to introduce you to the pruning process at Bodegas Loli Casado.
As every winter, the vine shoots have lost their leaves, and while the vines sleep until spring arrives, we proceed to prune them.
Here we see the thumb of a vine with its two shoots sprouted last spring. Every year, we prune the vine to regulate its production and prepare it for the next budding.
With one cut we remove one of the shoots and part of the old wood, while with a second cut we remove part of the other, leaving a new thumb with two healthy buds.
Next spring, two shoots will sprout with their leaves and clusters. And when winter comes again, we will repeat the steps to always keep the vineyard in the best possible condition.
