BODEGAS LOLI CASADO
Jaun de Alzate

Jaun de Alzate is our most traditional wine line but adapted to modern tastes. In 1982, my father, Luis, decided to label the bottles of his wines that he was already selling. In addition, driven by his forward-looking spirit, he made the effort to start ageing its wines in American oak barrels and completing his young wines with Crianzas, Reservas and Gran Reservas.

The name Jaun de Alzate comes from the 1922 novel of the same name by Pío Baroja, “The Legend of Jaun de Alzate”, where the adventures of this characteristic nobleman are narrated.

This brand embodies the legacy we have inherited from my parents and grandparents, a wine that tells the story of a special land, where everything is done naturally and in harmony with the environment. It is a wine loaded with the knowledge and tradition of those who came before us and that transmits it to us through its flavor. Jaun de Alzate is the perfect counterpoint to our other line of more modern and experimental wines, Polus.

The grapes used to make this wine, Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo, come from our own vineyards in Rioja Alavesa. After a manual harvest, using traditional winemaking processes, we obtain this wine.

At its birth it is a young red wine with character, which throughout its aging in American oak barrels, gives way to other more complex wines: semi-crianza, crianza, reserva and gran Reserva.
