This week we will continue talking about more curiosities of the wine world, exposing data that many of us do not know.
First of all, we wanted to mention that Spain has a large number of different appellations of origin, showing the great importance of wine and national viticulture. In fact, Spain has 70 Designations of Origin and 42 Protected Geographical Indications.
On the other hand, Spain is a world leader in organic vineyards, with more than 121,200 hectares (as of 2020) producing more than 400,000 tons of grapes that follow the processes to be considered organic.
Finally, another curious aspect that stands out within the national wine world is the wide range of grape varieties that we can find among all the different regions. As of today, Spain has about 150 native grape varieties, of which the most popular are: tempranillo, airen, bobal and garnacha (red).
